West Ham Man City love-in
City fans seem to have Hard-on for West Ham. I’ve seen the stories of mutual respect shown back in 87 when City, all but down, were relegated at The Boleyn. West Ham applauding proper fans of a proper club for their loyalty on the day. From there on, a bond had formed?
Does that feeling still exist among our lot that remember or were there?

Whether it be Social media or not, that camaraderie seems to have been ramped up more than ever. A good example being Zaba’s contract extension, lots of gushing messages of well wishes and approval from Citizens.

But I find it a little patronising, if the boot were on the other foot and West Ham were awash with money and success, would there still be that warmth?

I've no problem with them. I club that went through real hardship and then got rogue rich owner like we did before their current ownership who tend to stay in the background.
You can talk about the money they have spent but you still have to build a team and get them to play. They go for particular players who play the style they want. They have built for over 10 years. They've invested massively in the infrastructure, training ground and local community as well.

I've more issue with clubs like Man Utd inflating the transfer market with big bids and contracts for players who don't fit to win a few more overseas fans and rake in revenue.

Used to like them, can't stand them now. The club, not necessarily the supporters - the ones whove been around years are mostly alright.

The biggest cheats in world football, and there's nothing even vaguely special about what they do, they've spent more than a billion in a few years - you'd have to bolty levels of retardedness to not be winning trophies every year.

I always had a bit of soft spot for Man City, probably for similar reasons mentioned by others on this thread. But, nobody should have any illusions, Main Rd years ago was a tough place to go.

We had some real battles up there on their Kippax End. ( actually it was a side terrace) and navigating those terraced streets of Moss Side getting back to the station could be a real challenge after the game. I am sure those on here of a certain age will know what I am taking about.

I like Citeh, there fans know they were a small proper team like ours but got lucky. They were the West Ham of the North-West, so I think that's where the bond formed.

I would rather they win the title than any of the others capable of doing it. Vast majority of Man City fans I've known/met don't have the arrogance of the others and even when they were struggling and in the 3rd tier, their fans seemed to treat it all with a dark humour instead of throwing their toys out the pram.

They also kept good crowds going in the third division, when the likes of Chelsea would have had their support dropping off like flies - I think the 'next Chelsea' comments because of the investment are inaccurate, as they are two completely different kinds of clubs.

Some of their younger lot are a bit gobby/arrogant, but in the main they've got decent support,

Their chant against Sheffield United was funny as well, when the Sheff Utd fans sang "We hate Wednesday", they came back with "We hate Saturday"

not sure if its anything to do with a love-in but they asked if i was a season ticket holder when buying drinks at the bar in their ground few months ago, duly got a 10% discount. good that!

"Bishop and Morley had their own love in apparently!! (Not true but some believed it)."

Didn't Morely get stabbed by his wife? My Chelsea mate always used to say this was because she caught him in bed with Bishop. rumour must have come from somewhere.

Could be right, I can't remember the score. But we were relegated nonetheless.

Didn't Arsenal start singing Bubbles when the result came through that we had beat Tottenham a few years back?

Re: West Ham Man City love-in
I remember being on the pitch at Upton Park after relegation in the early 90s. We had played Nottingham Forest (I believe). The Forest fans were chanting kind words like, "You'll be back up next year". I remember someone shouting "Coin 'em" and a group of our fans started throwing 50p coins at them. I always thought that was bit harsh.

I also remember Arsenal fans cheering for us against someone like Panathinaikos at Highbury. Some pre season kick about with us, the gooners, the greeks and Sampadoria. We duly responded to the Arsenal cheers by chanting, "Fuck off, Arsenal.

We're not easy to love.

Re: West Ham Man City love-in
I bought a season ticket there the season they wouldn't allow away fans in, as was in the middle of a run of not missing a game for years and didn't want it shafted.

Didn't get to see if there was animosity towards us, as we were fucking awful and lost 3-0!

Thankfully it was also very early in the season (2nd home game for them maybe?) and the majority of us who done it had already arranged to sell the season tickets on, so not a massive loss on the £200 outlay. £200, fuck me how times have changed.
